Hofstra Lacrosse Player Gets Rookie of the Week Honor

Sam Llinares takes home the Colonial Athletic Association honor for a stellar debut performance Saturday.

A Hauppauge resident is making a name for himself on the lacrosse field as he was named Colonial Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse co-Rookie of the Week.

According to the Hofstra Pride website, the CAA conference announced Monday that freshman attack Sam Llinares was named the co-Rookie of the Week for the period ending Feb. 17.

Linares' numbers were outstanding for the week, accumulating four goals and an assist in his collegiate debut Saturday, a 14-9 win over Sacred Heart University. His four goal effort as is the most by a Hofstra freshman since Jay Card put up five goals as a freshman in 2008.

Linares, a Hauppauge High School alum and Under Armour and US Lacrosse All-American, scored Hofstra's first goal of the season 3:35 into the game against Sacred Heart and assisted on the Hofstra's second goal by Torin Varn. The attack would add two goals in the second quarter and his final goal in the third.
