Massage and Yoga Studio Opens on Route 111

White Lotus Massage and Yoga offers nine different types of massages and a full schedule of classes.

A new massage and yoga studio has opened its doors for business in Hauppauge on Route 111.

Smithtown resident Carolyn Calvacca has started up White Lotus Massage and Yoga on Oct. 15 to offer massage and a place for yoga practitioners in Hauppauge. Calvacca said opening the studio is a culmination of her interests and life experience.

"I have always loved the whole body aspect of yoga and the healing arts," she said.

White Lotus Massage has four certified massage therapists on its staff who offer services in nine different therapeutic massage techniques ranging from deep tissue massage to more rigorous Thai massage.

Calvacca said she specializes in Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy. It's a technique in which the therapist uses overhead bars to walk on a person's back, leveraging body weight to give a deep massage to ease muscle tension.

In addition to massage, Calvacca said White Lotus will offer a range of yoga classes to local residents. The current class schedule offers open level yoga, beginner and intermediate classes in addition to Tai Chi and Hatha yoga. For some sessions, the studio will be heated using an infrared heat technology.

It is part of a larger trend of change within the shopping center. A longtime floral shop, , closed its doors in Hauppauge to relocate earlier in October. Artisan Flowers is the third business in Atrium Plaza to relocate or close within the past year. relocated to the Branchinelli's shopping center off Route 111 and Townline Road in January 2011, before in February.
