$20,000 Holiday Shopping Spree at Walmart in Farmingdale

(Farmingdale, NY) Holiday cheer filled the air at Walmart in Farmingdale for 200 children as they eagerly shopped for their favorite holiday toys during the 14th Annual Marie and Michael Gubitosi Foundation Holiday Shopping Spree.

Funded by longtime Farmingdale resident and EAC Network Board Member Thomas Gubitosi, the event's excited children got a chance to take a picture with Santa and then were given $100 to shop for anything, including action figures, Lego sets, Barbie dolls, video games, and even electronics. Over 150 volunteers shopped with the children; some were child participants themselves from past years’ events.

The children are in the foster care system, have a parent who is battling substance abuse, or have a family struggling economically. The Foundation was established in honor of Mr. Gubitosi’s late mother and brother with the goal of helping needy children. “It is always such a special day for the children and the volunteers,” expressed Mr. Gubitosi. “I am the lucky one… it gives me so much pleasure to be able to do this for my mom, brother and family.”
