EAC NETWORK RECEIVES CERTIFICATE OF APPRECIATION

Demishia Owens, Program Director for Alternatives for Youth (AFY) at EAC Network, received recognition from the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department for the work “AFY Justice” (AFY-J) Program has contributed to their Youth Re-Entry program.  AFY-J provides case management services to their youth inmates upon release and prevents them from committing any further crimes that may return them to incarceration. Demishia received a Certification of Appreciation for her service and that of her program.

The Alternatives for Youth Justice Program provides immediate services while the youth are incarcerated or in an Office of Children Family Services (OCFS) placement.   Home-based crisis intervention services are provided for the entire family.  While the AFY-J Case Manager is working with a family, they have an umbrella of other services to help. “Working with Sheriff DeMarco’s Youth Reentry program has been a rewarding experience.  I believe having the ability to work with great people in a collaborative effort to provide more services aimed at youth who are incarcerated, has been a critical component in promoting positive youth development, reducing recidivism, and helping youth succeed in the community,” said Demishia. It is a partnership between parents, the adolescent and the AFY-J Case Manager from day one.
