The Trains
This year, look for more trains than ever before! A train created out of plant parts using the same process as that used to construct our New York landmarks circles the replica Macy's Herald Square in the entrance tent. A new G-scale Metro-North train winds its way around a display of Hudson River Valley mansions in the Palm Dome pool.
More than a dozen large-scale model railway trains—from American steam engines and streetcars from the late 1800s to modern freight and high-speed passenger trains and trolleys—traverse nearly a quarter-mile of track across rustic bridges, along overhead trestles, through tunnels, and past waterfalls that cascade into flowing creeks. Thomas the Tank Engine ™ returns to join the fleet of model trains this year.
The trains in the Holiday Train Show® are G-gauge and a large-scale steam locomotive can measure over 2 feet long and weighs as much as 10 pounds. Over 1,200 feet of gauge-1 brass track is used in the exhibition.
