Hauppauge Appoints Joseph Tasman as New Assistant Superintendent

The Hauppauge School District has appointed Joseph C. Tasman to the position of assistant superintendent for Personnel and Administration, effective July 1, 2014. He will replace Michele M. Rothfeld who will retire from the District effective August 31, 2014. “I am honored to have this exciting opportunity to serve as assistant superintendent in the Hauppauge School District – the place I have called my professional home for the past 19 years,” stated Tasman. “I look forward to continuing to provide the high-quality, professional services of my predecessors to all students, teachers, staff and community members as well as to developing new systems and procedures that will benefit all Hauppauge constituents.”

Tasman has served as the District’s director of Health, Physical Education, Family and Consumer Science, Recreation and Athletics since 2002. He began his career in the District in 1995 as a physical education teacher at Hauppauge High School and later worked at Bretton Woods Elementary School. At Hauppauge, Tasman coached the Eagles JV football, JV boys basketball, Varsity bowling and Varsity baseball teams. As the Varsity baseball coach, he led Hauppauge to two Suffolk County Championships and several league titles.

Tasman additionally serves as chairperson of the District’s Comprehensive Health and Wellness Committee and is a member of the Hauppauge Educational Foundation. As a member of the Suffolk County Athletic Director's Association, he has been a key player in Section XI, Suffolk's governing body for interscholastic athletics and also has served on the Seeding, Modified and Policy committees. Tasman received a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education from Salisbury University in 1992 and a Master of Arts in Liberal Studies from Stony Brook University in 1997.
