HAUPPAUGE MUSICIANS WIN TOP AWARDS AT MUSIC FESTIVAL

Hauppauge High School congratulates the 127 band, chorus and orchestra students for their outstanding performances at the Festivals of Music Competition, which was held April 4-5, 2014, in Williamsburg, Virginia.

          ●The Vocal Jazz Ensemble, Chamber Choir, Chamber Orchestra and Select Strings won First Place.

●The Chamber Choir won Best Overall Chorus, scoring higher than 12 other vocal ensembles.

●The Chamber Orchestra received Best Overall Orchestra, scoring higher than nine other instrumental ensembles.

●The Jazz Band and Wind Ensembles received Second Place trophies in their respective categories, receiving ratings of excellent and superior.

          ●Elise Zhao won Outstanding Accompanist for her exemplary performance accompanying Hauppauge’s Vocal Jazz Ensemble.

 

Each ensemble performed a warm-up piece and two pieces for three judges who are musical experts in band, orchestra and chorus. The performances are graded on a 50 point rubric that includes intonation, tone quality, rhythmic precision, clarity, note accuracy, etc.

 

The Williamsburg Festivals of Music hosted schools from five different states, including: New York, New Jersey, Tennessee, Virginia and Maryland. A total of 12 Vocal Ensembles and 15 Instrumental Ensembles performed at the Festival.
