Hauppauge Students Named Semifinalists of the LI Science & Engineering Fair
The Hauppauge School District is proud to announce that four students were named as semifinalists of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF), which was held on February 10, 2014. They are Chris Giuliano, Allison Lee, Luke Farrell and Sarah Jacobs. The four students will compete in the second round of the LISEF competition on March 13. The semifinalists are listed below with the categories they competed in and the names of their projects.
●Chris Giuliano (Senior) – Cell Biology
“A Proposal of a Novel Molecular Mechanism Capable of Explaining Current Behavioral Epigenetic Phenomena”

●Allison Lee (Senior) – Engineering
“Mechanical Destruction of Bacteria Utilizing Graphene, Graphene Oxide, as well as Phase Separated Polymer Blends”

● Luke Farrell and Sarah Jacobs (Juniors) – Math
“A Regional Analysis of Twitter as an Effective Means to Monitor the Spread of the 2012-2013 Influenza Epidemic in the United States.”
In addition to the four semifinalists, eight other Hauppauge students were recognized for their talent. They were:
●Nicholas Karavolias and Michael Repole (Seniors) – Behavioral Science
●Varun Mehta (Senior) – Engineering
●Christine Gee (Senior) – Computer Science
●Kerry Murphy, Alison Ma and Neethu Meloottu (Juniors) – Behavioral Sciences
●Aisha Mamoor (Sophomore) – Environmental Sciences
“All of our students were excellent representatives of Hauppauge High School in a tremendously competitive atmosphere,” stated Science Research and IB Biology Teacher Jocelyn Handley-Pendleton. “They exhibited both confidence and character, and I am very proud of them."
