Hauppauge Students Win 1st Place at Long Island Science and Engineering Fair
Hauppauge High School is proud to announce that juniors Luke Farrell and Sarah Jacobs won first place at the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair (LISEF), which was held on March 13, 2014. Farrell and Jacobs competed in the math category and their topic was titled “A Regional Analysis of Twitter as an Effective Means to Monitor the Spread of the 2012-2013 Influenza Epidemic in the United States.”
The students will now go on to compete in the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, which will be held May 11-16, 2014, in Los Angeles, California. “Luke and Sarah were excellent representatives of Hauppauge High School in a tremendously competitive atmosphere,” stated Science Research and IB Biology Teacher Jocelyn Handley-Pendleton. “They exhibited both confidence and character, and I am very proud of their achievement.”
