9/11 Responders Remembered at Innovative Stone

Intimate remembrance ceremony held at resting place of Freedom Tower Cornerstone in Hauppauge

More than 100 gathered at Innovative Stone's Hauppauge offices on Motor Parkway for an intimate Sept. 11 memorial ceremony on Sept. 8. The ceremony centered massive 20 ton Freedom Tower Cornerstone.

The Freedom Tower Cornerstone was once meant to mark the rebuilding of the World Trade Towers stood center, but was returned to Hauppauge when construction plans changed. It bears the inscription, "To honor and remember those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001 and as a tribute to the enduring spirit of freedom."

Sept. 11-based nonprofits 9/11 Responders Remembered, Tuesday Children and the Fealgood Foundation shared various tales of responders killed, those suffering health conditions as a result and Long Island families affected.  Jen McNamara, of 9/11 Responders Remembered, shared the group's goal of building a Nesconset memorial park by 2011.
