Area Stations Run Out Of Gas

As local flood the pumps, supplies run thin.

Smithtown area gas stations started running out of gas on Friday, and locals bracing for the impact of winter storm Nemo took precautions in advance of potential power losses from the storm.

As of 11 a.m., the Hess Station on Route 347 and Mount Pleasant Road in Smithtown was drained of gas. The same was true at the nearby Gulf station at Route 347 and Southern Boulevard.

In St. James, the Getty station on Lake Avenue only had premium fuel left, while nearby orange cones blocked the empty pumps at Smitty's fuel station.

Meanwhile, lines continued to form at station that still had fuel left, including the Gulf station at Lake Avenue and North County Road in St. James.

The scene was eerily reminiscent of last November, when Hurricane Sandy's crippling of the region's gas delivery system led to long lines and gas outages that lasted days.

Do you know of other stations that have run out? Add the info in the comments section. At the same time, tell Smithtown Patch readers where you are finding gas.

Sunoco at 1103 Jericho Turnpike, Commack has been closed since this morning! Gather they ran out of fuel quickly and have not received a delivery yet.

So why do you think they wouldn't be delivering prior to the storm's most severe impact? other than to create havoc and rising costs... as in Hurricane Sandy! I seriously wonder who has any control over this. Where is the government when they are well aware of the hardships on Long Island since Sandy... you would think they would make an extra effort with preparations! It's not like this storm is a giant surprise!!!

Station at the corner of 111 and Maple Ave is out.

What is wrong with people? They are creating their own gas shortage with the hysterical response to a bad snow storm - it is not anywhere near a Sandy situation. Does anyone remember two winters ago how bad we got slammed the entire winter? And everything was just fine. Ridiculous.

I thought it was a slow news day with just weather news all day long. But if you happen to watch BBC, there's some real news out there believe it or not!
