Aug. 8: Try Your Hand at Poetry or Search for Ancestors

Public libraries offer a range of classes for residents to try new hobbies.

This Monday, Hauppauge residents can turn to their local libraries to try new hobbies such as lwriting poetry or researching their family genealogy. The summer is a perfect time to try new things.

Here are our top five picks:

1. Have you ever wanted to write a poem but not sure where to start? Teens entering grades 6 to 12 can find their voice with at the from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration is required.

2. Learn how to find your family's roots at the Hauppauge Public Library's class on at 7 p.m. Maybe you'll discover distant ties to a celebrity.

3. The Town of Smithtown will host their third t Hoyt Farm featuring local performs from Hauppauge's own School of Rock. Don't miss out on a live concert, volleyball and other activities from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

4. Honey Hollow Elementary School alumni and staff members gathered to of the former school's opening in 1961. A time capsule was a surprise for all who attended. Check Patch later this morning to read all about it.
