Closed In Honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Schools, public institutions and several businesses in the Hauppauge area are closed for business on Monday.

This Monday, several businesses in the Hauppauge and Nesconset area are celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day but closing their doors and sending employees to spend time with friends and family.

Here's a list of places that are closed, along with a few noteworthy exceptions:

* students have Monday off from classes as the second official federal holiday of 2012. Time to get done any weekend homework left for the last minute.

* There will be no mail delivery from the U.S. Postal Service on Monday at either of the two branches in Hauppauge. However, on Nesconset Highway will be open and shipping packages.

*The and the Nesconset branch of the Smithtown Public Library will be closed Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You'll be able to grab a book at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Hauppauge, 10 a.m. Tuesday in Nesconset.

* You won't be able to cash a check at or banks, but TD Bank on Nesconset Highway will be open despite the federal holiday.

* The will be closed for the holiday, as well many other state offices in the Perry B. Duryea building and Suffolk County offices at the H. Lee Dennison building.
