Dec. 7: Bowling, Board Meetings and How "Hop-Hog" Got Its Name

This Tuesday brings together a mix of sports, business, holiday greetings and nostalgia in a unique blend. Check out Hauppauge's varsity sports teams as their seasons get underway or attend to civic duties at Town of Smithtown's Board meetings. There's plenty to do before the holidays.

1.  Sit back and relax at the starting at 1 p.m. at the Nesconset branch of Smithtown Public Library. Enjoy one of the latest releases on the library's big screen television with surround sound at no cost.

2. See 's as they take on Commack at 3:30 p.m. See who comes out pins ahead as these neighboring rivals meet on the lanes.

3. Town of Smithtown will hold a special at Town Hall, 2 p.m. The agenda includes setting the schedule for 2011 Town Board meetings as well as winter recreational appointments.

4. What's in a name? Everyone knows you're not a local resident unless you pronounce Hauppauge as "Hop-hog" with stress on the first syllable.
