Event Spotlight: W.S. Commerdinger's Ice Cream Social

All you can eat ice cream to help support efforts to preserve a history home in Nesconset.

This Saturday, digging into a bowl of ice cream can help support a Nesconset nonprofit organization preserve a historic home for future generation.

The Walter S. Commerdinger Perservation Society will be hosting its annual at the Clearly School for the Deaf from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Doors open at 6 p.m. to get in line for a bowl.

The W.S. Commerdinger Preservation Society is hoping to raise funds to restore a 1810 homestead that lies on the 90 acres preserve known as Lily Pond Park, on the northern side of Lake Ronkonkoma. The house was once occupied by several prominent Long Island Families including the Smiths, the Hallocks, the McCormicks and most recently the Commerdingers.

The nonprofit organization has taken the first step in applying for Suffolk County grants as well as be put on New York State and National Registry of History Places.

In the meanwhile, they hope to move forward with projects such as planting a garden and improvements to the property.
