Farmers Market Coming to Hauppauge

Teachers Federal Credit Union will host vendors every Thursday from June 6 to Aug. 29.

Teachers Federal Credit Union will host a farmers market at its Hauppauge headquarters, at 102 Motor Parkway, starting June 6.

Partnering with the Long Island Growers Market, TFCU will host about 15 vendors offering locally grown produce, baked goods, james and jellies, freshly made crepes, yogurt, seafood and more.

"Our vision has been that TFCU is locally grown - we've been here for 60 years and we like to support local, Long Island business," Lynne Viccaro O'Leary, said.

She also mentioned that Brentwood, just south of the area, is identified as a food desert, an place deemed by the federal government as an area that does not have access to fresh produce or healthy foods.

"In the summer, it's hard because families rely on school food programs so when that isn't available, this is now an option for healthy, affordable produce," Viccaro O'Leary said.

So far, excitement is already brewing the area farmers market.

"Everyone we’ve told so far was just so excited," Jennifer Gunn said.

The market will be held in the TFCU parking lot every Thursday through August 29 from 7:30 a.m. until 1 p.m.
