Students form Hauppauge's Rock and Roll University had the chance of a lifetime on Tuesday: they were given the chance to perform an eight-minute show at Citi Field before a Mets game, according to a feature published Wednesday in Newsday.
Among the group was 17-year-old Sydney Schizzano, who not only performed with 13 fellow musicians but was also given the chance to sing the National Anthem, and 10-year-old Brandon "Taz" Niederauer, whose music career already includes performances at New Orleans' House of Blues and with members of the Allman Brothers Band.
Rock and Roll University director Bill Mignoli said the opportunity came about when he was contacted by a group ticket salesperson – and told he'd buy a ticket package if his students could perform before the game.
"Many of the things I have done in my life that have turned out to be successful have been on a lark and this was one of those things," he told Newsday.
Rock and Roll University, which opened in 2011, has more than 200 students.
