Islandia Christmas Tree Lighting Draws Crowds

Residents starts off the Christmas season at Village Hall with music and an appearance by Santa Claus.

Residents turned up in droves to attend Islandia Village's annual Christmas tree lighting last Saturday.

The heated tents besides the Village Hall on Old Nichols Road were overflowing by 4 p.m. in anticipation of the day's events.  Mrs. Claus and elves were there, handing out candy canes and dancing with children and adults to holiday songs sung by "Joe the Singing Bus Driver."

Mayor Allan Dorman made a small speech, including holiday greetings as  the crowd flocked outside around the tree. Fire engines began arriving, and at precisely 5 p.m.  the tree was lit. Everyone cheered, then rushed off as a fire engine arrived with Santa Claus. Children lined up to meet Santa and receive holiday gifts.
