Library Budget Approved, Druckenmiller Re-elected

The library's 2011-2012 budget passed easily on Tuesday.

Voters approved a $2.4 million budget Tuesday for the .

Town of Islip residents passed the by a vote of 202 to 81. It will take effect when the current fiscal year ends on June 30.

The budget allows the library to continue its new initiatives including extended hours on Fridays until 9 p.m. and staying open on Sundays from September to June.

"The board and I have been trying to maintain a very low budget increase, as low as we can, while evolving to meet the community's needs," said Director Judith Berry while speaking with Patch in March, before the budget vote.

Robert Druckenmiller ran unopposed and was re-elected to a five-year term on the library's Board of Trustees. Berry said Druckenmiller was actively involved in petitioning to form the library more than 10 years ago.
