Moms Talk: Talking About Drugs With Your Teen

How do you approach your teen to open up the discussion on drugs?

Mom's Talk Q&A  on Hauppauge Patch reaches out to local moms (and dads) and families as whole to address local issues.

This week's question is, "How do you open up the discussion on drugs with your teen? Do you rely on on heath education classes? Is there an appropriate age to discuss the dangers of illegal drugs?" 

Hauppauge High School students are attending a presentation Wednesday called "What Heroin is doing to Long Island." It address the use of illegal drugs in our local communities, an issues parents may face as their child is confronted with drug use through social situations.

Earlier this year, Suffolk County police busted , for participating in a heroin ring that spread from Queens to Suffolk. It's an everpresent reminder its a growing concern in our local communities. 

Parents who are interested in learing more or need advice on speaking with their teen about heroin and illegal drug use can attend a community forum Thursday, 7 - 9 p.m. at .
