Oct 20: Pumpkins, Volleyball, and Finances

Today's trio of events run the gauntlet, but before you get confused don't try to play volleyball with pumpkins. It's not a new seasonal sport. Help seniors from the Arbors in Islandia decorate pumpkins for Halloween. Hauppauge girls volleyball celebrates October as Breast Cancer Awareness Month in Digs For Cancer today. It's also the time of year seniors looking at colleges can attend a financial advice.

1. Carve a pumpkin for the Senior Harvest and Pumpkin Decorating Festival at Hauppauge Public Library, 3 p.m. - 5 p.m. Therey be a limited number of helper needed, but conversation is always welcome.

2.  Hauppauge girls varsity volleyball team will be holding its Digs For Cancer in the high school gymnasium, 4 p.m. It's a Suffolk County wide fundraiser in honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month. The Eagles will take on neighboring Kings Park. Let's go Eagles.

3.  Get expert advice on how to pay for and afford a college education on Financial Aid Night at Hauppauge High School, 8 p.m. Learn about the variety of grants, scholarships and loans available to pay for the next educational step. It's a do not miss for college-bound seniors and their parents. 

4. Suffolk County's Council on Environmental Quality today will be considering a leaching field installation that may affect Hauppauge residents at their 9:30 a.m. meeting. Patch will have the full details on what unfolds later today.
