This Week At Hauppauge Library: Write A Short Play

This week there are plenty of child-friendly activities to keep students busy during the mid-winter break.

Your children are home from school as Hauppauge school district is closed on its mid-winter recess and they are bouncing off the walls, looking for something to do. Take them to for one of their many crafts, story times and other activities.

Monday, Feb. 21

Hauppauge Public Library is closed in recognition of President’s Day.

Tuesday, Feb. 22

Playwriting Workshop for Teens
Time: 6 – 8 p.m.
Description:  Students in grades 6 – 8 can learn the process of writing a short play, from beginning to end, from Instructor Camile Arnone. Teens can work together or with a friend, to develop plot, characterization and setting to submit a plot for the Movie Makers Contest – in which the winning short movie will be produced for the library.  Earn two community service hours per session.

Wednesday, Feb. 23


Time:  12:30 – 2 p.m.
Description: Help create a simple, small quilt that will be donated and places in the cage of a shelter animal to help ease its stress. Instructors Ms. Donna and Ms. Andrea will instruct students in grades 6 – 12 to create a blanket that will be donated. Receive one and a half hours community service credit.

Thursday, Feb. 24

Time: 1:30 – 2:30 p.m. and 3 p.m. – 4 p.m.
Description: What makes a cold day sweeter than a Snowman S`mores? Children in kindergarten through fifth grade are invited to mold a chocolate lollipop that will be planted in a cupful of s’mores to create a snowman s’more.

Friday, Feb. 25

Time: 2 p.m. -3 p.m.
Description: Children from kindergarten through fifth grade can meet up with friends at the library for an afternoon games, play some favorite and learning new ones from the library teen volunteers.

Volunteers in grades 6 – 12 are also needed at this time, and will receive one hour of service credit.

Movies and Munchies
Time: 7 – 8:45 p.m.
Description: Hauppauge public library will show a popular movies just for teens and their friends to sit back, relax and enjoy the show with munchies provided by the library.
