Alleged 'BB Gun Mom' Due in Court
The East Northport mom accused of driving three teenagers through neighborhoods and encouraging them to shoot out car windows with BB guns is due back in court Monday.

Susan Becker, 43, was arrested in April and linked to more than 60 instances of damaged car windows over a two-week period from Islandia and Hauppauge to Commack. 

Hauppauge Woman Crashes Car into Fairfield Apartments
A Hauppauge woman crashed her vehicle into an apartment building Friday morning at the intersection of Veteran's Memorial Highway and New Highway.

According to police, the 88-year-old woman was driving a 2007 Acura sports utility vehicle on Veteran's Memorial Highway when she made a left onto New Highway and hit a porch at the Fairfield apartment building.

No injuries were reported in the crash.

Route 347 Construction Starts Second Phase in Hauppauge
Drivers should be prepared to hit their brakes along Route 347 as construction begins on Phase II of the Route 347 greenway project. 

The first phase of the Route 347 greenway project, from Veterans Highway/Route 454 to  Wheeler Road/Route 111, was completed last week, reports Newsday. The second phase will move construction east, from Wheeler Road/Route 111 to Mount Pleasant Road, beginning next week. 

Hauppauge Schools Take Stand on Standardized Testing

The Hauppauge Board of Education has drafted a letter to state legislators, asking legislators to overhaul the No Child Left Behind Act, by reducing the level of testing mandates.

Superintendent Patricia Sullivan-Kriss said that there is a growing sense that the level of standardized exams in schools is creating a generation of test-takers instead of critical thinkers and learners.


Summer Construction Brings Sidewalks to Townline Road
Hauppuage parents who feared their teens walking to school on busy roadways may be able to breath easier next school year. 

Construction crews are preparing to create a continuous sidewalk along the north side of Townline Road, spanning from Lincoln Boulevard  east to Hoffman Lane. Construction is scheduled to start by June 24, announced Legis. John Kennedy, R-Nesconset.
