More Questions Than Answers Available at Homeless Student Forum

A shelter for homeless families has raised more questions among the Hauppauge community than county officials could provide answers for in a two-hour forum held on Tuesday night. 

Concerned Hauppauge residents, community members and school board officials packed the Suffolk County Legislature's auditorium to standing-room only on Tuesday, ready to launch an endless barrage of questions over the county's decision to open a family shelter this summer in a nearby hotel and its impact on the Hauppauge Public School District. 

Bellone: 'Every Homeless Child Has Access to Education'

Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone sent a letter to Hauppauge School District officials this week following recent controversy over the placement and education of homeless students in the district. The following is his letter.

The community is set to gather at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Suffolk Legislative Auditorium.

Deepwells Cancels Annual Fall Festival, Haunted House

This Halloween,  things might be a little less spooky in St. James. 

Deepwells Farm Historical Society Board has cancelled its annual Halloween Haunted House and Fall Festival traditionally held on Columbus Day weekend in St. James. 

Smithtown's Annual 'Dine With Wine' Week Starts Sunday

It's a foodie's delight. Dine out for deal at 23 participating Smithtown area during the annual "Dine with Wine" week. 

The Greater Smithtown Chamber of Commerce's 'Dine With Wine,'which begins Sunday and runs through Oct. 20, allows residents to enjoy a three-course, prixe-fixed dinner for $27.95 per person with their first glass of wine costing $5 from a select wine list. 

Staples Closes in Lake Grove

The Staples in Lake Grove has closed, nearly a year and a half after the office supplies chain opened a newer storefront just a mile away in Stony Brook.

As of Monday, workers were taking down the signs at the former DSW plaza storefront, and signs saying the store was closed covered most of the windows.
