Week in Review: Farmers Market Opens

Farmers Market Open For Business
The Hauppauge farmers market celebrated its grand opening Thursday with a line up that will make taste buds dance.

Teachers Federal Credit Union hosts the market in its parking lot, located at 102 Motor Parkway.

Vendors sell locally grown produce, baked goods, jams and jellies, freshly-made crepes, seafood and more.

Teen Arrested in Bagel Café Burglary
Police said they found the man who burglarized a Nesconset Bagel Store last week.   

According to police, on May 27, at approximately 12:30 a.m., Mantas Lukosevicius, 17, broke through the side door of the Bagel Café, located at 248 Smithtown Blvd.     

$7K Raised at The Rinx for Boston Marathon Victims

A fundraiser at The Rinx in Hauppauge last week raised $7,000 for victims of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Suffolk County Hockey Leagues held a Memorial Day Tournament to raise money and awareness for the One Fund Boston Foundation. The foundation was started by Gov.Deval Patrick (D-Mass.) and Boston Mayor Tom Menino, to help the people most affected by the tragic events that occurred.

New Card Shop Opens
A discount card and gift store recently opened within the the Village Shopping Center on Route 111, next to Uncle Guiseppe's on the Smithtown/Hauppauge border.

The store features half-off greeting cards, gifts, invitations, balloons, gift bags, wrapping paper and will soon be offering lottery tickets, as well.

Teacher, Serviceman Gives Moving Award to Hauppauge BOE
Mark Kimes, a music teacher at Hauppauge High School, wears two hats: one as a teacher, the other as a captain in the U.S. National Guard. 

After the first seven months of working at the High School, Kimes was deployed to serve military. Despite being away for about a year, he said he was welcomed back with open arms when he returned.
