Motorcyclist Killed in Hauppauge Crash
A Hauppauge man was killed Thursday morning when his motorcycle collided with another vehicle.

According to police, Robert Wesolowski, 40, of Hauppauge, was riding a 2012 Kawasaki motorcycle west on Express Drive North at 5:30 a.m. when he struck a 1994 Nissan Quest traveling north on Lincoln Boulevard, driven by Boanerge Arias, 25, of Central Islip and one passenger, his wife, Rosa Servellon.

Wesolowski was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Hauppauge 5th Grader Leads Walk-a-Thon to Fight Cancer

Caroline O’Brien, a student in Mrs. Leventhal’s fifth grade class at Bretton Woods Elementary School in Hauppauge, wanted to do something special to honor the memory of her beloved grandparents that she lost to cancer.

With the assistance of Bretton Woods Principal George Gagliardi, Caroline spent most of the school year planning and organizing a school-wide cancer awareness fund-raiser. 

Crime Log: Bricks Thrown at Home

Police were called to a Hauppauge residence June 29 after an unknown person threw two bricks though the home’s front bedroom windows.

The incident occurred around midnight to a home on Towers Place, police said.

FEMA Reimburses Smithtown $6.2M for Sandy Cleanup
Smithtown Town officials are eagerly waiting the arrival of a $6.2 million check that will help pay off debts from Hurricane Sandy. 

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to reimburse the town for 90 percent of the $6.9 million Smithtown officials claim was spent on collecting, removing and disposing debris after Sandy, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer's office announced. It does not include rebuilding and restoration funds.

Nesconset Summer Concert Series Starts
The sixth annual Nesconset Summer Concert Series is kicking off.

The series started July 2.

Sponsored by the Nesconset Chamber of Commerce and Legis. John Kennedy Jr., R-Nesconset, residents can watch six free concerts on Tuesday nights at 7:30 p.m. in July and August.
