10 Places to Catch a Holiday Show

Gather the family together for favorite holiday stories at these live performances near Hauppauge in December.

The holiday season is a time where focus shift towards spending quality time with family and friends. What better way to engage everyone that heading out to see classic holiday shows such as ballet producing of The Nutcracker, holiday choirs and more. This is our guide to where to find live entertainment the entire family can enjoy this holiday season.

1. 's choir will be giving a special holiday performance at the state building on Veterans Highway on Dec. 23 at 11 a.m.

2. Children can have an interactive holiday adventure with Katie’s Puppets “Mr. Mouse and the Holiday Candles” at the on Dec. 9 at 7 p.m. The show is for families and children ages 2 and up.

3. The American Dance Theatre of Long Island will present at the on Dec. 3 and Dec. 4 with performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets cost $15 to $22.

4. Head to will host a Women’s Advent Candlelight Tea on Dec. 5 at 7 p.m. in the Parish Center. Cost is $5 per seat, or $35 for a table of eight. Contact Terry at 631-751-6145.

5. See a Broadway-style show without traveling to Manhattan at the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle's annual Glory of Christmas from Dec. 8 to Dec. 11. The production features the tabernacle's choir and orchestra in a retelling the biblical account of Jesus Christ's birth Admission is free, must be reserved to guarantee a seat. Show are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Doors open one hour before the performance.

6. The nearby CM Performing Arts Center in Oakdale will put on Frosty the Snowman from Dec. 10 to Dec. 29 at 11 a.m. on select dates.

7. See a production of at Northport’s through Jan. 8, 2012. Check the theater’s website for a full schedule of performances held Wednesdays through Sundays.

8. Also, there’s Frosty The Snowman at the for children from Dec. 3 to Jan. 15, 2012 with performances at 11 a.m. on Saturday and Sunday, with special showings between Christmas Day and New Year’s Day. Tickets cost $15.

9. Explore a Christmas classic as at Stony Brook University welcomes the Seiskaya Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. There's only six performances from Dec. 16 to Dec. 20: Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m. For more information call 631-632-ARTS.
