10 Places To See Holiday Performances

A list of places to bring the family for live shows in and near Hauppauge.

The holiday season is a time where focus shift towards spending quality time with family and friends. What better way to engage everyone that heading out to see classic holiday shows such as ballet producing of The Nutcracker, holiday choirs and more. This is our guide to where to find live entertainment the entire family can enjoy this holiday season.

1. 's choir will be giving a special holiday performance at the state building on Veterans Highway on Dec. 22 at 11 a.m. With so many students being selected for All-County honors this year, it's a concert not to miss.

2. Children can hear from storyteller Gerald Fierst at on Dec. 12, 2 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. Stories will feature Christmas Hanukkah, Kwanza and ever the Winter Solstice.

3. See a Broadway-style show without traveling to Manhattan at the Smithtown Gospel Tabernacle's annual Glory of Christmas from Dec. 10 - Dec. 13. The production features the tabernacle's choir and orchestra in a retelling the biblical account of Jesus Christ's birth. Admission is free, must be reserved to guarantee a seat. Show are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, 3:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

4. The nearby Airport Playhouse off Knickerbocker Avenue in Bohemia will perform Frosty the Snowman on Dec. 11 - 18, with open performances for 1 .m. on Saturdays, Dec. 11 and 18.

5.  If you don't head to Airport Playhouse for Frosty The Snowman, stop by for their Holiday Jolly Jubilee. It will  be running with varying afternoon and evening showtimes through Dec. 19.

6. Explore a Christmas classic as at Stony Brook  University welcomes the Seiskaya Ballet's production of The Nutcracker. There's only six performances from Dec. 17-20: Friday at 7 P.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Sunday at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. and Monday at 7 p.m. For more information call 631-632-ARTS.

7. Head to St. James RC Church on Dec. 17 at 7:30 p.m. for an evening of Christmas caroling and instrumental performances.

8.  See a production of Frosty The Snowman at Northport's through Jan. 16, 2011. Performances are 11 a.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m. Sundays, with tickets costing $15. Additional performances are scheduled for Dec. 28 - 30.

9. Catch Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol at in Port Jefferson through Dec. 26. The show is in its 27th year of production. Call 631-928-9100 for additional information.

10. will be performing Annie through Jan. 30, 2011. Evening performances are schedule at 7 p.m. with tickets costing $18 - $32.
