Hair-Raising Competition in Hauppauge

It was a hairy situation at the Hyatt Hotel in Hauppauge on Monday as local cosmetology students competed in the Fran Cook Memorial Hair Styling Competition.  

The Eastern Suffolk BOCES students showed off their incredible hair creations, which focus on fantasy do’s, ranging from hair in the shape of giant trees, to pirate ships and everything in between.  

The annual event honors Fran Cook, a dedicated teacher who inspired and challenged her students. The night also provides scholarships a graduating senior from each of the ESBOCES technical centers and a graduating adult education student.

This year, local beauty salons and businesses were on hand to sell products at a discounted price and had applications for employment available to the students.
