Things To Do Around Sachem This Weekend

A roundup from our events calendar to help keep it local.

Stay in out of the cold this weekend and do some local things in the Sachem community by browsing this roundup of events we culled from our events calendar. Click on the hyperlink for all the details. Support your local community by checking out some of these happenings:

Long Island Nano Cask Ale Festival     $40   January 26; 3 p.m.

The price may seem a little steep for this roundup, but for real beer enthusiasts, it's worth the ticket price because it includes a free tasting glass and unlimited samples of beer. Head over this afternoon to the North Shore Beach Property Owners Association in Rocky Point for this 4th annual festival, which features nine Long Island breweries, live music and more, organized by Rocky Point Artisan Brewers. The festival will feature Holbrook's own Spider Bite Brewing Company.

Chinese Auction     $10  January 26; 6 p.m.

An evening of fun with great prizes. All money raised goes directly to the Boy Cub Scout Pack 449 to pay for field trips, outings, awards and community service projects. This is the Scouts' major fundraising event for the year. Good fun and it helps support the community.

At The Corner of Who and What     $10  January 26; 8 p.m.

If auctions aren't your thing, head over to the Rose Theater on Lincoln Avenue in Holbrook tonight for "At the Corner of Who and What," to hear the music of Jacob Levesque joined by Brandi Smigiel.

Sachem Thunder 11U Baseball Tryouts     FREE   January 27; 10 a.m.

It may seem too cold to be thinking about baseball, but spring is just around the corner and baseball tryouts for 11 years and younger are going down tomorrow morning at Nokomis Elementary School for the Sachem Thunder baseball team. Tryouts start at 10 a.m. Get the oil into your gloves, lace up your shoes, and best of luck kids!

Music in Film     FREE  January 27; 2 p.m.

On Sunday afternoon, head over to the Sachem Public Library for this free event. Pianist and composer J.K. Hodge will perform the music of film, featuring compositions from silent movies to major motion pictures. Hodge, whose influences range from Chopin to Billy Joel, reveals a story layer by layer with his music.

I received this email on Sunday Jan 27th. It would be helpful if this came out in the email on Thursday or Friday.

P Mary, I try to shoot for Fridays, but this didn't get written until Saturday. Good to know for the future that the newletter gets sent so late. I'll do better next time to get ahead of that schedule. Also, if you don't follow us on Facebook, please do. That's where you can usually go to get our latest news within the hour.
