AMF Smithtown Lanes Reopening Raises Unsolved Mystery

Don Stewart, general manager of AMF Smithtown Lanes, wonders who took first picture of roof's collapse.

AMF Smithtown Lanes reopening its doors to bowlers has resurrected an unsolved mystery: Who took the photo of the roof collapse?

Don Stewart, general manager of AMF Smithtown Lanes, said he's still clueless as to who took the first picture after the bowling alley's roof collapsed under heavy snow from the Feb. 9 blizzard.

"I'm very curious who took the picture," Stewart said. " One of my league bowlers sent the photo to me literally right after it happened."

Stewart said the contractor hired to plow the bowling alley's parking lot saw the roof collapse on Feb. 9, just as Smithtown Lanes was preparing to open for customers.  The snow plow operated called the bowling alley's former general manager, who immediately contacted Stewart.

"Minutes later, I got the picture sent to me as I was driving here," Stewart said. " There was only one photo taken immediately after the collapse."

It's more than six months later, but the general manager said no one from the bowling leagues or the surrounding community has come forward as the original photographer.

Stewart said there would be any reward or consequences to someone stepping forward, but it would help satisfy his and the staff's curiosity.
