Artisan Flowers Closes Its Doors on Route 111

Florist and cupcake shop entrepreneur leaves the Atrium Plaza shopping Center in Hauppauge.

A longstanding Hauppauge flower shop has closed its doors.

Artisan Flowers and Gift Baskets on Route 111, owned by Kathy Saltalamacchio, has closed its doors in Hauppauge. A closed sign hangs from on the shop's front door while the interior has been stripped bare, without the bright and colorful arrangements of the past. 

In an interview with Patch in October 2010, Saltalamacchio said sales had gradually decreased due to the recession. The florist said orders from churches, schools and even local workers' unions died off as they were forced to stretch their budgets.

The florist expanded into the baking industry by . Saltalamacchio sold cupcakes for all occasions ranging in size from miniature to special-order jumbo cupcakes.

Artisan Flowers' website lists a Centereach address for the business in Mark Tree Commons Plaza. Saltalamacchio would not comment on the change in business.

Artisan Flowers is the third business in Atrium Plaza to relocate or close within the past year. relocated to the Branchinelli's shopping center off Route 111 and Townline Road in January 2011, before in February.
