Brendel's Bagels & Eatery Opens In Hauppauge

New bagel cafe takes over Just The Way You Like It Bagelery storefront in Atrium Plaza on Route 111/Wheeler Road.

A new bagel cafe has opened its doors for business in Hauppauge's Atrium Plaza on Wheeler Road.

Brendel's Bagels & Eatery has opened, taking over the former storefront of Just The Way You Like It Bagelery and Eatery at 950 Wheeler Road. Customers sat outside the café eating lunch on Thursday and bringing out orders.

This new storefront marks an expansion of the chain that has two other Long Island stores, one on Route 110 in Huntington and the other in Westbury's Century 21 shopping center. The eatery serves bagels, flagels, baked goods, breakfast wraps and omelettes. In the afternoon, Brendel's offers a variety of lunch wraps, panini, salads and more.

The eatery brings new life into the shopping center, but does not completely fill the void left by changes earlier this year.

Just The Way You Like It Bagelery closed its doors in February, shortly after Top Shelf Wine and Liquors relocated across town to a storefront next to Branchinelli's.

The former location of Top Shelf at 900 Wheeler Road remains up for rent. Property owner Mark Brecker previously said he was looking to clean out the shopping center to the west of the Post Office for a new client, a contract that fell through.

Stay tuned to Patch as we catch up with the owner of Brendel's Bagels & Eatery to learn about the decision to expand into Hauppauge.
