Restaurants, Lowes to Open on Corner of Palomar Airport and El Camino

The Palomar Commons is currently 16-acres of graded dirt and heavy equipment will be home to new retailers and restaurants in Carlsbad later this year.

Where the Olympic Resort Hotel and Spa once sat, a new shopping center is underway called the Palomar Commons

Lowes Home Improvement will anchor the 180,000-square-foot center.

Eateries including Chipotle, Five Guys Burgers and Fries, Jersey Mike's Subs and Panera Bread have announced they will be at the center.

Panera is the only one of those chain restaurants that already exists in Carlsbad.

There will also be a 16-pump gas station and bank on site.

The center is slated to open in July or August of 2013.

So great that these franchises will be closer. Carlsbad deserves a plethora of dining choices!

It really IS a shame but there is ONE positive to this...that North County Animal Shelter next door will FINALLY get some high profile exposure (I hope)....NOBODY knows that shelter is over there and dogs and cats are killed every day in every shelter due to over crowding. At least all the throngs of cars and people descending on the shopping center will SEE the shelter and consider adopting??

I agree, allthatca. We adopted two cats (brother and sister) at that shelter two years ago and they are the sweetest cats I've ever known. To think that if we hadn't taken them, they would probably have been killed sends shivers down my spine.

It's about time Carlsbad is doing this. I live really close. La Costa Town Center is so pathetic compared to encinitas. I've always gone to Encinitas or Oceanside to shop. I just wish Carlsbad would allow Walmart to come here. So glad they're in Encinitas, though! I hope Cheesecake Factory or Hometown Buffet comes here!
