Contemporary Setting, New Kitchen Planned for Nisen 347

Owner Tom Lam says he hopes to have new location open in two months.

Two stories of sushi will soon hit the Smithtown area as the Nisen group, which has restaurants in Smithtown and Westbury, prepares to open its third location, Nisen 347, at the intersection of Middle Country Road and Route 347.

Owner Tom Lam said the first floor will have a bar and lounge area, while the second floor will be the main dining area.

"It will be very contemporary like our Commack location," said Lam. "We will also have a private room in the basement for parties."

The troubled location has seen a few eateries come and go including Intermezzo and Ara International Grille and Bar, but Lam said he isn't worried.

"We did research before we took over," he said. "We know from the past that they didn't know how to operate a restaurant."

Lam said he replaced 20-year-old kitchen equipment with brand-new. He hopes to open in two months and begin hiring in early August.
