Cupcake Couture Closes its Main Street Store

For Rent sign posted in front window of popular Smithtown bakery this weekend.

Residents with a sweet tooth will no longer be able to grab a designer cupcake on Main Street to satisfy their craving.

Cupcake Couture, a designer cupcake shop, recently closed its doors at 91 East Main Street in Smithtown. A large red-and-white "For Rent" sign was hung in the front window of the bakery as it becomes Main Street's next vacant storefront.

It's not immediately clear why Cupcake Couture has shut down, as the Smithtown store is still listed listed as "new" on its website. Phone calls to the chain's ownership were not returned by Monday evening.

Cupcake Couture, a San Antonio, Texas-based bakery boutique, first opened its doors on Main Street under the ownership of Smithtown resident John Johnson in November 2011.

Johnson was owner of the first Long Island Cupcake Couture - the first location outside of Texas - while also a partner and vice president of the company.

The business featured 16 cupcakes that will be in store all year-long, collectively known as the "Sweet 16," and will also offer flavors by season, from apple spice to cappuccino, pecan pie, s'mores and more. The bakery also took special orders for full-sized cakes of Sweet 16 flavors, hosted special events and offered a private party room.
