Hauppauge Lawyer Disbarred Over Mortgage Fraud

74 complaints from more than 30 states leveled against attorney.

A Hauppauge lawyer has been disbarred by a Brooklyn Appellate Court on Wednesday after multiple complaints of mortgage fraud, among other things were leveled at him.

Rory Alarcon of the Alarcon Law Firm in Hauppauge resigned, acknowledging the grievance committee was investigating 74 complaints against him from individuals in more than 30 states.

The complainants alleged they were defrauded by one of the mortgage modification businesses where Alarcon served as the corporate officer and that Alarcon shared legal fees with non-lawyers and failed to supervise employees.

Alarcon's shady practices were highlighted in an televised news report on Good Morning America where a client of his reached out to the network to help her stay in her home, which they were able to do and to lower her mortgage payment. Video shows Alarcon ducking a news reporter as he heads to his law office, refusing to answer questions.

According to the New York Law Journal, Alarcon said he “could not successfully defend himself on the merits against such charges.”
