Hauppauge Solar Energy Company to Open by Summer

SolarCity Corp. plans to employ 80 people at its Motor Parkway location.

SolarCity, which specializes in installing solar energy panels for homes and businesses, is planning to open its Hauppauge office and warehouse by this summer, according to a Newsday article.

The California-based company will move into 923 Motor Parkway. SolarCity also has locations in Albany and Westchester County. According to the report, the company is looking to employ 80 people for its Long Island location within the next two years.

Solar energy companies are doing well on the market. According to CNN, shares of SolarCity reached a high of $31.89 on Monday, while the company has only been public for five months.

“Long Island is one of the most affordable places in the country to go solar,” said Northeast Regional Vice President Ed Steins in a press statement. “SolarCity allows local homeowners to lock in rates for clean electricity and save on monthly utility bills.”

The company touted New York's public-private NY-Sun program, a plan by Gov. Andrew Cuomo to exponentially increase solar power use in the state through partnerships with firms like SolarCity, as helping them to continue to grow in New York.

“Our New York expansion is bringing new local jobs, including positions as installers, engineers, electricians, project managers and salespeople,” Steins said.

The $175,000 project received tax breaks from the Suffolk County Industrial Development Agency, according to the Newsday report.
