Island Harvest Receives $25K Donation

Bank of America gives $25,000 grant to the hunger relief organization, Island Harvest.

Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger relief organization just got a much needed boost with a $25,000 grant from Bank of America.

The grant will support ongoing operation expenses required to sustain and expand Island Harvest’s food collection, distribution, and peripheral support services for residents in need throughout Nassau and Suffolk counties. According to a statement, nearly 300,000 Long Islanders turned to Island Harvest’s network of nearly 570 soup kitchens, food pantries, and other emergency feeding programs each year for food and support. After Sandy, that number increased by approximately 30,000 residents.

“There are still many people in the hardest hit communities that need our help and our services are needed now more than ever,” said Island Harvest President and CEO Randi Shubin Dresner. “Thanks to the generosity of Bank of America, Island Harvest can continue to our efforts to provide assistance to Long Islanders impacted by Sandy.”
