Jade Garden Chinese Restaurant Closes its Doors in Hauppauge

Family who owned Jade Garden welcomes take-out customers to Hau Po, just across the street.

A restaurant that has been a staple of Hauppauge's food scene closed two weeks ago after being in business more than 40 years.

The family that owned Jade Garden for the past 20 years, though, still owns the nearby Chinese take-out restaurant Hau Po, which has been around for 42 years. The manager of Hau Po, who gave her name as Cindy, said takeout customers can still get many of their favorite Jade Garden recipes at Hau Po.

Cindy attributed Jade Garden's closing to a leasing problem with the landlord of the shopping center. The landlord could not be reached for comment on Thursday.

A sign on the door at Jade Garden indicates the closure, which took some Hauppauge Patch readers by surprise in this post from our community boards.

"They were shocked, but they were OK with it," Cindy said. "The Jade Garden take-out customers are coming here."
