Motor Parkway Plaza Celebrates Its Grand Opening

Mixed-use retail and commercial mall in Hauppauge is awaiting its Silver LEED certification.

Business owners celebrated the grand opening of Motor Parkway Plaza, one of Long Island's first LEED certified shopping centers, in Hauppauge this afternoon.

David Abel, president of United Realty, purchased the 3.5 acres of land along Motor Parkway more than 40 years ago, envisioning a shopping center that would become a central destination on Long Island.

FedEx, Dunkin Donuts, Exit 55 Liquors and Ideal Image are open for business within the complex, with , Spring and Subway are in the process of moving in. The mall is nearly completely rented, according to United Realty group.

Islip Town Officials, LIPA representatives and business owners were on hand for a ribbon cutting ceremony, where a green ribbon was "cut" by using a Town of Islip hybrid vehicle in the parking lot.
