POLL: Is Sonic's Possible Nesconset Site Ideal? [PHOTOS]

Nesconset residents express fear a Sonic on this corner could create traffic, noise and odors in their neighborhood. What's your biggest concern.

More than 250 Nesconset residents showed their opposition to proposed plans to build a Sonic on the corner of Middle County Road and Alexander Avenue on Tuesday night.

on proposed Sonic plans to express concerns the site location would generate heavy traffic, noise, smell and litter in their neighborhood.

The proposed 4.5 acre site, shared with Ragazzi Italian Restaurant, is currently heavily wooded. Serota Smithtown LLC has promised a maintain a 57-foot wide buffer of trees and vegetation between Sonic and the neighboring residents to the south, off Dover Hill Drive, if given prermission to building. The proposed plans also include planting of additional 6-foot, 7-foot tall evergreen trees.

However, Smithtown Board of Zoning appeals and residents asked the developer if Sonic had considered other sites away from residential homes, such as the former Houlihans and four acres of land next to the Checker's on Route 347.

What, if any, is your biggest concern about the proposed Sonic in Nesconset?

LOL! You guys crack me up. Be happy you all live in a nice and safe neighborhood. I am. I grew up in Brentwood. Try watching the place you grew up in go from fun and kid friendly to hell in a hand basket. Unless you like watching your town slowly disintegrate I suggest you all start banding together.

Over here in KP - you may have acres of state parks but unfortunately there is very little revenue generating property in Kings Park that would attract any business. KP pretends to be a "north shore" town but in no way can it be compared to a Cold Spring Harbor, Huntington Village even a Port Jefferson. There's a reason it's "a best kept secret" - there's nothing there that anyone would want to visit/patronize. The Main Street in KP has little to offer other than the bakery and a few restaurants. Oh wait...there is the tattoo parlor. Very upscale....NOT! It's only a matter of time before the old school neanderthals will invite another power plant to the industrial area hoping this will bring a tax windfall to the town. Nothing like a place who throws their neighboring towns under the bus so that they can profit from a noxious business.

250+ people at a TOS Zoning meeting is a huge turnout. It is very unusual for that amount of people to take the time out of their busy lives to attend one of these meetings. The people all seem to have some very legitimate concerns. They did not "move near the landfill and then complain of the odor". They moved to a residential neighborhood and ultimately their zoning should protect their quality of life. It's not fair to the people who live there and rely upon their present zoning to change it to allow for a fast food restaurant. You wouldn't want it next to your house so why would you think it would be suitable to be placed next to their homes?

As my hubby and I passed the empty shopping center where 6th Ave was , I commented why not use the blighted , empty strip center for Sonic? Seems to me it 's a better location then the proposed site on Alexander Ave . I also believe it will effect the restaurant next to it negatively . Very nice place . I will not be effected directly by either Sonic or apts in Nesconset , but I feel they will both impact the quality of life in area . Remember also , a Bahama Breeze restaurant is planned directly across the street in mall parking lot next to sports dept store , only steps away from Cheesecake Factory .How much garbage food do we need ? As I commented in another post ,all garbage food chain food places and fitness centers ..
