Plans Approved for New 7-Eleven on Gibbs Pond Road

Developer plans to demolish condemned two-story residential home.

A Bay Shore developer has gotten approval to raze a local eyesore to construct a new 7-Eleven on Gibbs Pond Road.

Smithtown Town Board voted to unanimously approve site plans to construct a 7-Eleven in Nesconset, on the northwest corner of Gibbs Pond Road and Smithtown Boulevard intersection.

Developer J. Nazzaro Partnership has offered to demolish the existing 'eyesore,' a vacant two-story residential building condemned by the town since at least January 2012.

The plans call for construction of a 3,000-square-foot retail commercial building, significantly smaller than the existing 4,740-square foot home that currently occupies the space.

The new 7-Eleven will have a two-way drive for patrons to enter and exit on Gibbs Pond Road, near where the existing lot's driveway is now. There will be a second entry-only driveway built on Smithtown Boulevard.

The developer needs a building permit from the Town of Smithtown and both a highway permit and a highway work permit from Suffolk County Department of Public Works before starting construction as of Nov. 5.
