State Seizes Gas Station Over Unpaid Taxes

Officials from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance has seized one local gas station it claims owed the state $110,305 in sales taxes. 

USA Gas, operated by Demet North, Inc., located at 365 Veterans Highway in Commack, was shut down on Sept. 17, according to a tax department representative. 

"We are engaged with the taxpayer in an effort to resolve the matter," the representative said.

The seizure of the gas station has not affected the service station next door, Vet's Auto Service, which is still up-and-running according to an employee who answered the phone there Friday.
