Sweet Frog Hops Aboard Social Networking Train

Whether it’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or texting programs, Sweet Frog in Hauppauge has hopped aboard.

The frozen yogurt shop, which celebrated its one year anniversary last month, has taken a step back from traditional advertising, and using social media to become more visible and get in touch with its customers.

“Going forward, and now, it’s critical,” owner Richie Shire said of social media. “Print advertising doesn’t work as well in this business, as social networking.”

The frozen yogurt shop is currently having “super sweet snapshop contest,” in which customers can tag a photo of their Sweet Frog creation to the business’s Instagram account (@SweetFrog_Hauppauge). At the end of the month, the customer with the best photo gets a free 12-oz, their photo on the businesses’ Instagram account and a shout out.

“It’s always fun watching what a customer comes up with. It shows their personality,” Linda Tirelli, who is the co-owner and Shire’s sister, said.

The business’ Facebook presence has helped Shire and Tirelli reach its customers, who give flavor suggestions and compliments on the Hauppauge location’s fan page.

Workers at Sweet Frog have fun with the social media accounts as well, dressing up as the business’ smiley-faced mascots and acting out a variety of fun scenes to post on the page.

In addition to the Instagram contest, Sweet Frog has a texting program, in which every 10th person to text FROG87 to 25399, gets a free 12-oz cup.
