The Dish: At Vallarta, Tacos are Tops

Get ready for the real thing.

Hauppauge's newest south-of-the-border restaurant is already making big fans in the community, and on one recent trip it was clear the eatery is picking up the lunch-hour crowd from the nearby offices and industrial park.

We had three tacos on our visit: carnitas pork, chicken and chorizo, which cost about $9.

What's nice about Vallarta is the authenticity. Tacos are served on two warmed corn tortillas, not flour tortillas, they are topped with a tangy mix of onion and cilantro and we chose the deep and earthy hot pepper sauce. There's no sour cream here, no shredded cheddar, no lettuce.

The meal comes with tortilla chips and the restaurant offers a few different salsa options at the salsa bar, including traditional pico de gallo and a fresh roasted tomato salsa.

But ours is just one opinion. Have you eaten the tacos at Vallarta yet? What did you think?
