The YMCA is Taking the Long View

Long Island, NY (January 1, 2014) – The New Year sparks the possibility of a healthy start. In January gyms are bustling with excitement but, for many, staying committed seems to be the hardest part. The YMCA of Long Island has found that partnering with a friend is the key to delving deeper into maintaining that motivation. That’s why, for the month of January the Y will be offering a zero joiner fee (a $75 value) for all new members; and for existing members who refer a friend will receive one month free. “At the Y, we are not fixated on pounds and inches, we are focused on long-term sustainable health improvement,” says Anne N. Brigis, President & CEO “and leaning on a friend can help you stick to your routine, encourage you and inspire you along your road to good health.” All five of the YMCA branch locations, including The Great South Bay YMCA, The YMCA at Glen Cove, The Huntington YMCA, The Patchogue Family YMCA and The YMCA East Hampton ReCenter will be offering member incentives to refer a friend and zero joiner fee.

A membership at the YMCA of Long Island is more than just gym and swim, it’s an experience that will improve your outer strength and inner growth. Besides the traditional fitness related programs and equipment, the Y offers programs in Diabetes Prevention, a LiveStrong program and Youth Biathlon for cancer survivors of all ages, a Healthier Tomorrows program for controlled weight loss, and so much more. The Y, at its core, exists to improve the community. That’s why the Y is reducing barriers for you and your friends to living a healthier life.

The YMCA is a leader in providing programs that combat Diabetes, obesity and other chronic diseases. Long Islanders of all ages and fitness levels learn to live their healthiest lives inside the Y’s state-of-the-art facilities in Brookhaven, East Hampton, Glen Cove, Bay Shore, Huntington, and Patchogue.  The YMCA of Long Island is a cause-driven nonprofit organization that works to strengthen communities through programs that focus on youth development, healthy living and social responsibility.
