10 Ways to Celebrate Hanukkah

Here's a list of local events and groups planning to mark the celebration of lights.

Hauppauge residents who celebrate Hanukkah, the festival of lights, are preparing to kick of their holiday celebrations on Tuesday. Here's our list of local community events to join others in lighting a menorah: 

* The Nesconset Chamber of Commerce will host its annual on Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Nesconset Plaza. Join local residents and business members for the first night and festivities. 

* On Tuesday, the St. James Chamber of Commerce will host a at the corner of Route 25a and Lake Avenue at 5 p.m. The Menorah will be lit through Dec. 27.

* Head out to Whitman Mall in Huntington for a Tuesday starting at 6:30 p.m. There will be dreidls, gelt, donuts and a special acrobatic show. 

* Join Chabad at Stony Brook at the  on Nicolls Road Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m. for an adult comedy night featuring comedian Avi Liberman.

* Be a part of 2nd Annual Chabad of Mid-Suffolk Hanukah Parade in Commack on Wednesday. The route is traveled by car beginning at the Northgate shopping center and ending at the Chabad of Mid-Suffolk. Donuts and latkes served afterwards.

* Chabad at Stony Brook is sponsoring a night of on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., where kids and kid-at-heart adults can "flip like a latke and glow like a flame.

* The will hold a show on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at 5:15 p.m. There will be plenty of donuts, latkes and a comedic show featuring Kevin Carr including juggling, magic, comedy, stilt walking and audeince participation.

* The Chabad Women's Club in Stony Brook invites women to a and menorah lighting "with a feminine touch" at 7 p.m. on Dec. 22. 

* Chabad at Stony Brook is offering a family Shabbat dinner on Friday, Dec. 23 that is open to the community. Call 631-585-0521 for reservations.

* Chabad at Stony Brook's annual Winter Camp for kids from Dec. 26 to Dec. 30. Contact Chabad for more details.
