10 Ways To Celebrate Hanukkah

Events celebrating the Jewish holidays in and around Hauppauge.

Wednesday is the first night of Hanukkah. Light candles on the menorah with others this year with this guide to events celebrating the Jewish holidays around Hauppauge.

1. Join at 4:30 p.m. on Dec.1 for their first . The profession will begin in the Northgate Shopping Center in Commack and drive a route to the intersection of Vets Highway and Jericho Turnpike. The event organizers say it will carry on despite the rain.

2. The will be holding a menorah lighting at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday. It will be followed by a game of Super Simon Sez followed by a community gathering over latkes and donuts. It's free and open to all.

3. welcomes Jewish community members to join them for their holiday Shabbat services on Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

4. Sit down with others to a Hanukkah dinner at the Chai Center of Dix Hills on Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. The Shabbat inner will feature guest speaker "Kosher Cop." Cost is $54 per family or $20 for individual members; $60 per family and $22 per individual non members. RSVP by calling 631-351-8672.

5.  A family dinner will be hosted by on Friday at 6:30 p.m. followed by service at 7:30 p.m. The event includes dessert and dreidels for children.

6. Another option for Friday services, in Commack will hold a Shabbat Service featuring their adult and junior choirs at 7:30 p.m.

7. Jewish students in grades six to eight can boogie down at a holiday dance party at Temple Beth Sholom of Smithtown on Saturday, 7 p.m.

8. A pinnacle of celebration is sure to the hosted by Temple Beth Chai of Hauppuage this Sunday at 10:30 a.m. All community members are invited to join them in holiday games and traditions.

9. Celebrate with a Hanukkah program for all ages at the Suffolk J YCC in Commack at 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 5.  The event features "Shalom Sesame's Chanukah: The Missing Menorah" at 4 p.m. followed by refreshment and circus workshops for children over 2. It's free for members, $10 per non-member family and pre-registration is required for the workshops. Cost is $15 per family at the door.

10. Still not sure what to give that eighth night? Get holiday shopping done while enjoying Chabad of Huntington's  at Walt Whitman Mall on Route 110. There will be a one of a kind Torah magic show featuring Israel Landman and a ventriloquist. Other activities include a menorah lighting, dreidls, gelt, prizes of donuts.
