UPDATE: About 2,500 Remain Without Power in Hauppauge

Two-thirds of customers without power on Thursday have had their power restored in the past 72 hours.

Update, Sunday, 2 p.m.: Two-thirds of Hauppauge LIPA customers have had their power restored in the past 72 hours as utility crews continue to work on turning lights on across Long Island.

Just over 2,500 LIPA customers in Hauppauge remain without power following last week's storm, out of almost 9,000 LIPA customers in Hauppauge. About 7,500 households reported being without power Thursday morning.

Just over 350,000 LIPA customers remain without power according to LIPA's power outage map.

Original story: Hauppauge residents have started to see some slow but steady progress in restoring electricity to the area. 

As of 8;19 a.m. Thursday, Long Island Power Authority is reporting 7,523 Hauppauge homes and businesses are without power. This is down from 8,039 power outages in Hauppauge as of 7:18 p.m. Wednesday, and an improvement over the 9,350 outages reported immediately after the storm.

There are still 44,181 outages in the Town of Smithtown as of 8:19 a.m. Thurday, according to LIPA's Outage Map. The outages in Suffolk County have also dropped to 304,482 as of 8 a.m.

LIPA reported it has  from as far away as California in hopes of speeding up the restoration of service. .  

LIPA customers can report outages and can also report outages by calling 1-800-490-0075 or 631-755-6900.

Those who have signed up for the utility company's mobile program can text "OUT" to 695472. To register for the texting program, send "REG" to 695472 and follow the step-by-step instructions.
